Los Angeles County - Birth Mother adopts Disabled Son 28 years old whom she had to relinquish after Birth

July 2020

Los Angeles County - Birth Mother adopted Disabled Son 28 years old whom she had to relinquish to her parents (the son's grandparents) after Birth.  This case presented a not so unusual set of facts:  Birth Mother was only 16 years old at time of birth of son with significant disabilities.  The Mother and her parents decided the disabled son's best interests would be served by the maternal grandparents formerly adopting the child shortly after birth.  Fast forward nearly three decades and the birth mother has been raising her son ever since she was an independent adult and able to provide for his care & well-being.  The Birth Mother re-acquired her lawful mother status via California Adult Adoption.  Time from case filing to approved adoption order/decree 4 months due to the pandemic court closures.
